City of Dallas celebrated Arbor Day

On Saturday, April 23, 2022, the City of Dallas celebrated Arbor Day on the heels of Earth Day.  Nearly 30 people gathered at Ian Tawney Park to celebrate the beauty and health that trees bring to our community.

Girl Scout Troop 20171 kicked things off by planting a beautiful new cedar in the park.

After the tree planting, volunteers spread out along the trail to remove ivy from trees within the park.  15 bags full of ivy were removed in all!

Representatives from several partner organizations volunteered at the event.  We appreciated having members of the Friends of the Arboretum, Polk Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Parks Advisory Board all in attendance.  Mayor Dalton and City Manager Latta (and kids!) were there to lend a hand.  The Parks Crew (Dusty Johnson, Owen Barth and Josh Kibbey) prepped the park beforehand and were on site throughout the event to help where needed.  Megan Johnson has been working behind the scenes in preparation for the event and made sure the whole thing was recorded in pictures.  Thanks everyone - let's do it again next year!!
