The New 2019 Subaru Forester is Almost Here!

There was plenty of hype at the New York International Auto Show March 28. But what can we look forward to in the next chapter of one of the ruggedest and most widely well-regarded compact SUVs out there?

The big reveal didn't leave much to be desired, giving us what was billed the "roomiest, most capable, most versatile" generation yet. 2019 Subaru Forester, in what will be base, Premium, an all-new Sport, Limited, and Touring trims, has what has become a long list of exciting features and enhancements.

  • It has been fully redesigned inside and out on the new Subaru Global Platform, using high-strength steel extensively to improve crash safety, create a quieter interior, and deliver a better and more confident driving feel.
  • There's an updated 182-horsepower SUBARU BOXER® engine sure to catch on with all-terrain enthusiasts looking for a bump from last year.
  • A standard Lineartronic® CVT allows Forester to get an exceptionally fuel-efficient approximate 33 mpg down the highway.
  • Standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive incorporates an equally standard X-MODE with Hill Descent Control. Bring a towering 8.7 inches of ground clearance into the mix, and you can expect the new Forester to be at its most capable, especially across slippery surfaces and where understeer and oversteer compensation is needed.
  • EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is now standard, making it easier than ever to monitor traffic, utilize cruise control for safe distancing, and stay informed of when you sway outside a lane. Also returning is the Pre-Collision Braking feature, which even drop the full force of your brakes during emergencies.
  • There will be an interior comprised of high-quality, soft-touch materials, offering enhanced passenger space up to 111.9 cubic feet as well as added rear legroom. You can even expect standard automatic climate control, second-row seating to come available heated, and rear air conditioning vents and USB ports.
  • Ditto for better cargo capacity. Up to 76.1 cubic feet of space is accessible via an extra-wide rear gate, and raised roof rails will be available for a boatload of extras.
  • A power rear gate will be an option, allowing opening and closing hands-free. You'll even be able to open, close, and lock up with a single button touch.
  • The SUBARU STARLINK&#trade; Multimedia system has been optimized for the model year and now builds in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. There's an available with built-in, voice-activated navigation system powered by TomTom as well as in an 8-inch version to boot.
  • Front and center is an all-new DriverFocus system, which helps reduce distracted driving. It can even recognize up to five drivers and recall their seat position, climate settings, and outside mirror position -- and Forester is the only compact SUV to currently offer advanced safety tech like it.
  • Blind-Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert remain available, as does a Rear-Vision Camera come standard, and with optional Reverse Automatic Braking, it's easy to avoid rear collisions.
  • SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security gets some improvements over Automatic Collision Notification and SOS Emergency Assistance, too. For one, it'll feature an all-new Remote Engine Start with Climate Control, manageable via your smartphone. Secondly, a new STARLINK Concierge service can provide personal assistance with navigating, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling service visits.

None of this is to mention the new Sport trim, a promise of cool in its own right, set to offer unique 18-inch wheels, LED lighting, cargo-friendly roof rack tie-down points, SI-Drive dynamic drive settings, and an amazing new Enhanced X-MODE® with drive settings for snow, dirt, and mud.
