The Fastest Subaru Yet

One of the simplest pleasures in life is going fast. No matter who you are or how old you get, there's a simple joy in watching your surroundings speed by. Nobody knows this better than the engineers at Subaru, and they aim to remind everyone of the joy of speed with the Subaru WRX STI Type RA.

The "Type RA" is the part of the name that stands out, and it's a special acronym indeed: RA stands for Record Attempt. The Subaru WRX STI Type RA is a specially designed Subaru sedan built to be as fast as possible. It's Subaru's secret weapon on the track, and they plan to use it to set a new four-door sedan lap record at the famous Nürburgring track in Germany. It is still a Subaru WRX STI at heart, but with a few extra tweaks to tease out even more power. Its 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine is familiar, but it manages to give 310 horsepower (up from the usual 305), and Subaru has made it lighter than ever to get as much speed as possible. Sadly, the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA will have a limited run; only 500 will be made. Still, we'd love to drive one, and we can't wait to see how the record attempt goes. You probably won't see one on the streets of Brewster, Danbury, Wappinger Falls, Westchester County, or Poughkeepsie, but it doesn't hurt to keep an eye out for one.
