Adventure, elevated.

2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness™

The most capable Outback ever is available at Subaru of Corvallis, near Lebanon and Albany

Back in the mid-90s, the Subaru Outback was just an optional variant of the Legacy station wagon, upfitted with some protective body cladding and a slightly higher ride height. Still, these modifications became quite popular, especially among outdoor enthusiasts who appreciated the improved off-road versatility. So, Subaru decided to further emphasize these characteristics and give the Outback its own space in the lineup, giving rise to the World's First Sport Utility Wagon.

The Outback eventually became a key element of Subaru's transition into the adventurous brand it is today. And now, Subaru is taking its famous wagon to a new level once again, with the all-new Outback Wilderness™. Here's a quick look at what makes Wilderness the most rugged and capable Outback ever.

Even More Power

More Clearance

The Subaru Outback already offers one of the segment's tallest ride heights, 8.7 inches, allowing it to pass over obstacles that many competitors can't. The Outback Wilderness steps it up even more, with 9.5 inches of ground clearance and  specially tuned suspension to improve all-terrain stability while retaining the Outback's signature on-road comfort and composure. Furthermore, Additionally, redesigned bumpers significantly increase the Outback's approach, departure, and ramp breakover angles.

Better Traction

The Wilderness trim level equips a special dual-function version of the Outback's X-MODE advanced traction system, with extra settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. Additionally, the Outback Wilderness rolls on exclusive 17-inch matte-black alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama GEOLANDAR® all-terrain tires. There's even a standard full-size spare stored under the cargo area.

More Power

The Outback Wilderness finds its internal motivation in a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine. This potent powerplant sends 260 horsepower to the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system via a Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission. And thanks to an upgraded final drive ratio (4.44:1), the 277 pound-feet of torque is available down at just 2,000 rpm. Outback Wilderness can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
